A new middle school in Sun Valley has officially been named.

Desert Skies Middle School is scheduled to be open to the public in August 2019.

Middle school aged students in Sun Valley are currently split between Traner Middle School and Sparks Middle School.

Desert Skies will be built in conjunction with another middle school in Spanish Springs, both of which are modeled after Depaoli Middle School.

The Bureau of Land Management owns the land on which the middle school will be built on.

With an estimated construction cost of $85 million, the school will have a 1,400-student capacity, relieving overcrowding at other schools in the area.

The current principal at Dilworth S.T.E.M. Academy, Laura Petersen, will serve as the middle school's principal.
