Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti has had a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, during which the latter expressed support for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe.
"In a phone call with President Macron, I thanked him for France's unwavering support for Kosovo and expressed our belief that France will support Kosovo in the Council of Europe, without further conditions, in line with the opinion of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the historic vote. I also insisted on the full respect and implementation of the basic agreement," Kurti writes on the X platform.
Meanwhile, in a statement from the French presidential palace, it was emphasized that Macron highlighted the importance France attaches to the swift and irreversible progress of the implementation by the Kosovar authorities of the Association of Serb Majority Municipalities, even in the context of Kosovo's application for membership in the Council of Europe.
Last week, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe paved the way for Kosovo's membership in this organization, the final word on which will be given by the Council of Ministers next month.
