API applauds House action to reverse harmful Bureau of Land Management Planning rule

WASHINGTON, February 7, 2017 – Today API Director of Upstream and Industry Operations Erik Milito applauded the House vote to disapprove the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) final Planning 2.0 rule for developing domestic oil and natural gas resources on public lands. “Today’s vote in the House is a step forward for the responsible development of energy resources and for all Americans who benefit from domestic energy production,” said Milito. “The United States is leading the world in the production and refining of oil and natural gas, and in the reduction of carbon emissions, and we need forward-looking energy policies that will strengthen the U.S. energy renaissance. A balanced approach to resource management planning is imperative; however, this rule increases regulatory uncertainty and risks further delays in the land use planning process. It’s important that BLM’s resource management process prioritizes and grows federal production to further unleash economic and national security benefits. “More than 80 percent of voters support increased development of U.S. oil and natural gas, and removing barriers to the development of these domestic resources will help create jobs, advance environmental stewardship, and strengthen our national security. We hope the Senate and administration will also act to reverse this harmful rule, and we look forward to continuing to work with Congress and the new administration to meet the energy needs of American consumers and businesses.”
