Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) Welcomes Exemption from Section 232 Tariff Remedies

OTTAWA, March 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) and its member companies, today welcomed Canada’s exemption from the tariffs announced by President Trump in response to the Section 232 investigation on The Effect of Imports of Steel on the National Security. These exemptions are positive news for Canada’s steel producers and their employees.

“On behalf of the membership of the CSPA, we would like to thank the Government of Canada for its significant efforts on this file,” said Joe Galimberti, President of the CSPA.

“We continue to support the dialogue between Canadian and U.S. governments to ensure our integrated markets remain open and that our respective supply chains collectively grow, while continuing to address global steel excess capacity issues.”

We do remain concerned about potential diversion of offshore steel to the Canadian market as a result of Section 232 related actions.

“CSPA and its members will continue our urgent work with the Government to ensure the domestic market is effectively defended from unfairly traded steel,” concluded Galimberti.
